printer refuses to print in anything but best mode , win8.1 64bit

As subject shows, I cant print in fast modes, what would cause this ?

( no errors of anykind, just no fast printing,and a hp rep said it would work fine in win8.1,where my HP officet 7410 doesn't, due to its age , and using win8.1)
